Director’s Personal Statement: Ms Bel Oomerjee
I have over 25 years’ experience working in the childcare sector. Having qualified as an NNEB student in 1989 I went to work in both the private and public sector for local authorities before going on to achieve my dream of opening my own nursery in 1996 in London.
My passion was to work with young children and deliver high quality childcare within my nursery. In succeeding in this model nursery it led to a high demand within the area leading to the opening of a further 5 nurseries in and around London. Although I enjoyed working with young children I still wanted to continue my own professional development in Early Years Education and decided to train as a Montessori Teacher. With this new knowledge and training I decided to incorporate the Montessori theory and philosophy across some of the nurseries. |
Whilst overseeing the running of the 6 nurseries across London I continued in my career and trained as a Childcare Assessor and Internal Verifier and then as a teacher in Higher Education. This was an obvious direction to take as we encourage and support the continued training and development of our staff within the company so this gave me a deeper understanding of how they were being taught. I then went on to lecture and teach childcare syllabuses at local colleges and training centres.
Raising a family whilst running a successful business was not easy but this did not stop me and so I continued on by branching out into the Peterborough area in 2002 and purchased land and together with my husband designed our own purpose built nursery which is now our main Lynchwood Head Office base. |
I have recently completed my B.A. Hons. degree in Early Years Professional studies and now use this knowledge across all the nurseries by disseminating this to my management team.
My business success was acknowledged by the local community and I was awarded Business Woman of the Year organised by NatWest. |
 |
Despite such a busy schedule I still keep an active ‘hands on’ role within the company working alongside all of my managers and their teams at each of the nurseries and continue to develop the company now having 3 nursery settings and an out of school club in the Peterborough area.
I still enjoy taking part in the family events including the fun days and the outings organised by the nurseries.
I can apply all of my management training towards the business aspect of running the nursery ensuring sustainability across the whole of the company allowing more opportunities for further development in high quality childcare.
